As a multidisciplinary institution, SSEES supports research in its four core areas; Economics and Business; Languages and Culture; History; and Politics and Sociology.
Our PhD students work on a wide range of theses with supervision from some of the leading experts in the field. Your research is supported by the many research centres and seminar series based at SSEES; opportunities to present your work to peers and academic colleagues; and the UCL Doctoral School, which supports you with training and development for both academic and professional capacities.
Funding is competitive but opportunities via Research Councils and within UCL are available and SSEES supports applications to these, with applicants each year being successfully awarded.

We also offer two Masters of Research programmes (MRes) which are suitable for either PhD preparation, or for those looking to enter careers requiring research skills.
