SSEES offers a suite of tailored programmes in politics and sociology which seek to understand the political and social complexities of the region. Areas of expertise include security studies; foreign policy, international relations, corruption and governance and migration and sociology. We host the popular Post-Soviet Press Group, which meets weekly to discuss emerging events in the region and covers a vast array of topics, often student-led, and with opportunities to research and report back on your own areas of interest. Our SSEESing Now series gives expert analysis on stories from the region as they develop.

Our graduates can be found globally, as the skills acquired combined with area-specific knowledge places you in a unique position to work in areas such as policy-making, diplomacy, media and journalism, NGOs and think-tanks and academia. Close relationships with organisations such as Chatham House, embassies and the FCO facilitate our careers evenings that are hosted at the School. We also offer politics-based programmes on our popular two-year International Masters (IMESS) where you spend a year at UCL and the second year at one of our partner institutions overseas.
