UCL Open Days

UCL Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences

Encompassing the logical, experimental and mathematical study of our universe, UCL Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences brings together departments such as Chemistry, Mathematics, Earth Sciences and more, into a combined, interdisciplinary organisation.

In addition, the faculty has its own interdepartmental undergraduate degree programme: Natural Sciences, which allows students to learn about multiple subject areas during their degree. Front-line research feeds directly into our teaching programmes, and our students benefit from access to first-class laboratory facilities. For graduate students, the faculty offers programmes ranging from one-year taught MSc degrees, through MRes (research masters) to 3-4 year PhD and EngD doctoral research degrees.

Our subjects

The oldest chemistry department in England, and with a history of excellence including Sir William Ramsay’s Nobel prize-winning discovery of five noble gases. We continue to pioneer the field and offer you an exceptional learning experience.

Earth Sciences

Earth Sciences

We’re fascinated with how our planet works - from materials at the atomic level to the forces that drive volcanoes. Our programmes allow you to build in-demand skills in a research-driven and highly stimulating learning environment.

students in lab

Institute for Materials Discovery

At the forefront of a field that underpins our world - from smart phones to satellites, solar cells to dialysis. We can help prepare you to realise your ambitions in this exciting area.

Natural Sciences

Institute of Risk and Disaster Reduction

Understanding global risks and humanitarian crises is a major challenge in an increasingly uncertain world. Our masters programmes train you to analyse and offer solutions to these complex issues.

A founding department of one of the world’s most prestigious universities, and with a globally recognised research position. We offer you two exciting yet challenging programmes: an MSc in Financial Mathematics and an MSc in Mathematical Modelling.

Physics and Astrophysics

Physics and Astronomy

We’re a UK leader for physics and astronomy and offer six graduate programmes. These include opportunities to work at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, the Dark Energy Survey in Chile, and the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble.

Science and Technology Studies

A leading centre for the study of the history and philosophy of science as well as science policy, communication and sociology. Our programmes use approaches from the humanities to examine science and its place in society.

Space and Climate Physics/Systems Engineering

At the Mullard Space Science Laboratory in Surrey, we’ve been developing leading-edge space research and technology for over 50 years. Our programmes draw on this experience and give you the chance to work on real-world projects.

Statistical Science

Statistical Science

We’ve played a major role in the development of statistical science since we were founded in 1911. Study with us and you can develop sought-after skills needed in fields including medicine, industry, government and research.
