Experimental Psychology offers a world leading research environment aimed at understanding the psychological and biological basis of behaviour. Research in the department explores behaviour in both human and other species, from a cellular level through brain systems, cognition, computational and social levels. Our core research encompasses behavioural and cognitive neuroscience, sensory systems, learning and memory, language, decision-making and social cognition. These themes are explored using state-of-the-art facilities within the department, including brain imaging (fMRI) and stimulation (TMS), behavioural testing and systems neuroscience.
Our postgraduate programmes sit within The Division of Psychology and Language Sciences. We undertake world-leading research and teaching in mind, behaviour, and language. Our researchers specialise in a range of disciplines such as cognition, neuroscience, linguistics, education, communication, medicine, health, phonetics and development. The Division is a vibrant environment for both study and research. UCL is the top-ranked university in the UK for research in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience.
