Teaching and learning

The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, case studies, class discussions and group projects.

Students typically study 4 compulsory modules, each worth 15 credits in Terms 1 and 2. The Dissertation project takes place over Term 3. In addition to the core modules, the programme includes multiple bootcamps throughout the year, where industry leaders visit to teach the latest knowledge and techniques in data analytics, artificial intelligence, and organisational design.

Assessment is through written examinations, individual/group coursework, and a 12,000-word dissertation project. The dissertation project will typically involve practical topics chosen by you as the student, and address a range of people-related challenges faced by organisations.

Each taught module in Terms 1 and 2 is delivered over 10 weeks, with 3 contact hours per week comprising lecture content and interactive components. This means you can expect approximately 12 contact hours per week in Terms 1 and 2.

In addition, students spend approximately 7-12 hours a week for each module on assessment and independent study to further develop the skills and knowledge covered in lectures and seminars.

The total number of weekly hours will vary from 20 - 25 hours according to the module and the activities being undertaken. Furthermore, contact hours will reduce to approximately 2-5 hours per week during Term 3, when students focus on their dissertation module.

For a full overview of the programme structure please visit the UCL School of Management website.

Modules

The compulsory modules provide the basis and foundation in key HR theories and Data Analytics knowledge and bootcamps give you the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about more specialised areas of HR management.

The compulsory dissertation module (research project) takes place in Term 3. Throughout the year the programme will expose you to sufficient opportunities to identify dissertation topics (e.g., inequity in organisations, adoption of flexible work policies, leading remote teams) and will equip you with the tools to empirically test your research questions and present their findings. Most of the research and write-up for the research project will likely take place in Term 3 and over the summer.

Please note that the list of modules given here is indicative. This information is published a long time in advance of enrolment and module content and availability are subject to change. Modules that are in use for the current academic year are linked for further information. Where no link is present, further information is not yet available.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits. Upon successful completion of 180 credits, you will be awarded an MSc in People Analytics and Human-Centric Management.
