The Postgraduate Certificate in Leading Transformation and Change, aims to provide managers with the necessary background knowledge and understanding to implement change within their CAMHS service, the practical tools to manage this change effectively and a framework for reflective practice and evaluation of the implementation process.

Normally a minimum of a second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant subject (e.g. psychology) and/or a registerable professional qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. medicine, psychology, social work) from a UK university or overseas professional qualification of an equivalent standard. Candidates without a degree, but with a minimum of three years professional experience in a CAMHS (or equivalent) setting together with a relevant professional qualification will also be considered.

About this degree
This programme is for CYPMH and Wellbeing leaders and managers across health, social care, and education within the NHS, schools, others statutory and third sectors. This focus of the programme is to provide leaders and managers with an effective learning environment and toolkit by which to deliver their service change and transformations objectives. The programme will benefit anyone in a leadership role implementing change in CYPMH and Wellbeing provision including:
- Senior school staff involved in the EMHP and Mental Health Teams in schools
- Clinical Leads in NHS CAMHS implementing CYP IAPT and/or the CWP programme
- Commissioners and Social Care leads who are driving service transformation
- Managers and Senior Clinicians in CYPMH & Wellbeing charities and third sector organisations
Students undertake two modules to the value of 60 credits.
The programme consists of two core modules, each worth 30 credits.
Upon successful completion of 60 credits, you will be awarded a PG Cert in Leading Transformation and Change: Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Services.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Leading Transformation and Change programme is divided into two core modules which run in parallel over the year.
- Module 1: Leading Transformation and Change: Children and Young People's Mental Health and Wellbeing Services (1) (30 Credits)
- Module 2: Leading Transformation and Change: Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Services (2) (30 credits)
There are no optional modules for this programme.
Teaching and learning
The programme is delivered at the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, and is taught by leading practitioners in the field. It is made up of 12 formal teaching days spread over the year, and four study days. Teaching is a combination of classes, tutorials, small group workshops, seminars and supervised project work. Assessment is through written assignments, oral assessment and a project report of 5,000-8,000 words.

This process of change will need to harness existing organisational processes of job planning, appraisal, recruitment, strategic development and continuing professional development to the overall objectives of Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Services transformation. The fundamental purpose of the programme for managers is to enhance your own competencies in delivering such a comprehensive programme of change within a cost effectiveness framework.
At the end of the programme, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and a critical understanding of:

- Intensive Outcomes Monitoring
- Increasing young people’s participation in the service
- Referral systems and Care pathways
- Systemic theory around organisational change
- Key findings from Implementation Science

Why study this degree at UCL?
The programme aims to support you in the implementation of your transformation and change objectives. The programme firstly aims to be a resource for you in achieving locally determined goals. In this way, the intention is to ensure that the teaching, the small group work and the assignments are all designed to support real world challenges and planned change rather than being an additional academic burden to participants who already have to manage high levels of demand with their work settings.
The intention of the programme is to enable you to reflect on your own knowledge and expertise and to apply your previous experience in the implementation of the CYP IAPT programme.
The programme aims to facilitate learning between managers and leaders and across services, by enabling learning about each other’s context and by facilitating joint problem solving around implementation problems.
The programme is based and taught at the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, a national charity delivering pioneering mental health care.

The application to the Leading Transformation and Change programme is not an ordinary application process. Partnerships have a preliminary stage where they bid to become part of the London Child IAPT collaborative. Managers, supervisors and therapists are then put forward by these particular partnerships to take part in the programme. Therefore, you have to be working within an organisation which is part of an existing Child IAPT collaborative to be considered for this programme.
