Outstanding Contribution to Staff Experience

Recognising those who bring joy on a day-to-day basis to the experience of UCL members of staff

The nominees for the Contribution to Staff Experience Award were nominated by the teams and staff for who they bring joy on a daily basis.

The winners and finalists of this award are not only committed to their roles, but go out of their way to make staff and students feel welcome on campus, are supported within their office, and feel comfortable to talk to them about anything.

Winner: Claudia Roland

Events and Projects Administrator, School of Slavonic and East European Studies

Claudia has been fundamental at keeping the staff at SSEES together. It is a joy to join any of the events she organizes and makes me feel closer to the rest of the team. They have become the best substitute for the missing face-to-face interaction. She has also, as wellbeing guru, taught ZOOM yoga sessions for staff, got staff involved in fundraising and has organised a group collaborative walking group where we're each contributing to helping the department virtually walk from London to Kiev. She has been a constant optimistic spirit and has had boundless energy for helping staff keep their morale up at a difficult time.

Winner: Dr Jelena Calic

Lecturer (Teaching), School of Slavonic and East European Studies

Jelena is an inspirational example of collegiality: over the past three years she has regularly covered for colleagues on maternity leave and volunteered to furlough one of her own courses so that colleagues' courses can run. She has taken a nurturing leadership role in introducing colleagues to teaching online and designing bespoke Moodle courses to suit our new realities; she has devoted much of her time to her department's planning of new assessment methods, while also providing many hours of outstanding and selfless personal support to colleagues in distress. Jelena has a natural talent for leading by example.
