Athena Swan, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing

The Institute of Prion Diseases believes the greatest progress in our research mission can be achieved through a workplace that embraces diversity and inclusion. In 2021 we were awarded our Athena Swan Bronze status in recognition of our long-term plan committing to change in order to achieve highest level of excellence in promoting equality.

The principles of Athena Swan are now fully embedded in all of our activities in order to develop a culture in which all our staff and students can flourish. We will continue to critically assess our efforts and impacts, and make improvements to provide an environment that encourages inclusion and scientific excellence for many years to come.

The IoPD recognises that best practice in all areas of our work life benefits the Institute and all who work here. Our activities include providing mentors, role models, career progression and promotion workshops, development advice, support and initiatives to enhance staff wellbeing. All staff and students are required to complete training related to diversity and unconscious bias and we adhere to all of UCL’s EDI policies. Further information and resources are available through the links below.

The Courtauld is wheelchair friendly with accessible toilets on most floors. Facilities also include a social space called Clarkey’s to gather, catch up with colleagues and share ideas. Our dedicated Wellbeing Committee organise weekly social gatherings here, alongside other events to promote wellbeing amongst all staff, students and visitors.
