On Friday 19 June, the UCL Institute for Global Health (IGH) is proud to support Red4Research – the annual celebration of the people, partnerships and communities behind life-changing health research.
The Red4Research campaign is the shines a spotlight on the collective effort that makes research possible and the impact they have. UK universities and hospitals are powerhouses of breakthrough research, delivering transformative outcomes for patients while making the UK one of the most sought-after countries to do biomedical research.
Much of this work happens behind the scenes, however, and the Red4Research campaign shines a spotlight on this life-changing, cutting-edge work.
This spirit of collaboration sits at the heart of UCL’s history and mission. As a world-leading university, UCL has long been at the forefront of health and medical research, combining scientific excellence with a commitment to tackling the most urgent challenges facing society. Today, it continues to lead internationally, delivering research that not only pushes the boundaries of knowledge but also translates into meaningful, real-world change.
I am incredibly proud to support Red4Research. Research these days is a team effort: from volunteers and study participants, to health professionals, to clinical trial co-ordinators and academics and many more besides.
At IGH, this is reflected in a strong focus on pragmatic, translational research. Working across diverse settings – from sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Latin America to London – IGH researchers develop and test solutions that can be applied in real-world contexts. This includes work addressing climate change and health, strengthening responses to infectious and non-communicable diseases, improving mental health, and tackling the social and structural drivers of health inequalities.
As UCL marks Red4Research, IGH celebrates the power of research, and the people who make it possible.
