UCL GBSH Student of the Week: Rita Aoun

A short biography

Currently pursuing a Master’s in Biotech and Pharmaceutical Management at UCL, Rita has a background in Pharmacy, holding a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) from the Lebanese American University. Born in the United States, the Lebanese student gained practical experience through internships at Houston Methodist Hospital, Lebanese American University Medical Center and Algorithm Pharmaceuticals.

Below she shares why she joined UCL GBSH, her experience so far, and some advice for prospective students.

What inspired you to choose your Master’s programme at UCL GBSH? 

I chose this master’s programme because it offers a combination of healthcare and business modules, which is exactly what I needed to advance my career in the pharmaceutical industry. My passion for oncology made this programme an ideal fit, as it would provide me with the comprehensive skills necessary to navigate the healthcare market, especially in biotechnology.

What has been the most impactful part of your GBSH experience so far? 

The most impactful part of the teaching and learning experience has been the interactive, case-based approach to learning. Case studies and group projects with different students from different backgrounds and nationalities has been an eye-opening experience that allowed me to explore the different perspectives in the healthcare system. 

Which skills have you gained here that you believe will make the biggest difference in your career? 

My time at UCL GBSH has definitely shaped my career goals. The programme better equipped me with the required knowledge to understand the pharmaceutical industry. Learning from industry leaders, guest speakers, practical exercises and real-world cases has enriched my learning and helped me secure my position in Global Oncology Marketing at DSI.

What professional opportunities have been most valuable to you?  

Studying within such a global and diverse cohort has been one of the highlights of my experience. It has broadened my perspective on healthcare systems and allowed me to learn from peers with different cultural and professional backgrounds.

How has your time at GBSH shaped or accelerated your career goals? 

My advice would be to come prepared to work hard, engage with diverse perspectives and backgrounds, and embrace every learning opportunity. The programme is extremely rewarding, and if you are passionate about healthcare and business and want to make an impact in the industry, this programme is the perfect place to cultivate your skills and expand your network.
