The UCL Global Business School for Health (GBSH) was delighted to host a cohort of PhD students from Strathmore University Business School (SBS), East Africa’s leading business school, as part of their one-week international Healthcare Management module in the UK.
Strathmore University Business School, renowned as the first in Africa to offer a focused MBA in Healthcare Management, has existing academic ties with GBSH. Building on these connections, this exchange aimed to deepen collaboration, foster research opportunities, and provide students with a global perspective on healthcare management.
During their UK visit, SBS PhD students were hosted by King’s College London for the first part of the week, before spending a dynamic day at GBSH hosted by Dr Pratap Kumar. The visit featured interactive sessions led by GBSH faculty members Professor Simcha Jong, Dr Clara Aranda, Dr Kate Honeyford, and Dr Pratap Kumar, who shared insights into GBSH’s innovative educational programmes and research in health innovation, entrepreneurship and NHS data.
A highlight of the day was the “PhD speed dating” session, where GBSH and SBS PhD students engaged in lively, informal discussions about their research projects. This unique format encouraged the exchange of ideas, peer feedback, and the formation of new academic networks.
The exchange provided invaluable opportunities for both SBS and GBSH students and faculty to build international networks and explore avenues for future research partnerships. The visit also set the stage for further exchange visits and collaborative projects, reinforcing the commitment of both institutions to advancing global health education.
GBSH is proud to support such international initiatives, which not only enrich the academic experience but also contribute to the development of future leaders in global health. We look forward to building on this partnership with Strathmore University Business School and welcoming more exchange cohorts in the years to come.
