UCL Global Business School for Health (UCL GBSH) welcomes Dr Jonathan Broomberg to its Health Executives in Residence (HEiR) programme, further enhancing the School’s connection to senior leaders shaping healthcare worldwide.
Dr Jonathan Broomberg is Group Deputy CEO of Vitality, and Global Head of Health Insurance for the Discovery Group, Vitality’s parent company. In this role, he oversees Vitality’s portfolio of health insurance and healthtech businesses in the US, China, South East Asia and Japan.
Prior to this role, Jonathan was CEO of Discovery Health, South Africa’s largest health insurer and a pioneer in shared value health insurance and the application of incentivised behaviour change programmes in the context of health insurance. Before Discovery, Jonathan was a founder and partner of a private equity fund management business, investing primarily in health related businesses.
In addition to his executive roles, Jonathan maintains a strong interest in local and international public health matters. He is currently a Non Executive Director of the UCLH Foundation Trust. He was also a member and Chair of the first Technical Review Panel of the Global Fund to fight Aids TB and Malaria, and served as Special Advisor to South Africa’s Minister of Health in the first post apartheid government.
Jonathan’s professional training is in both medicine and health economics and financing. He graduated in Medicine in South Africa, and then read PPE at Balliol College, Oxford while on a Rhodes Scholarship. He subsequently completed MSc and PhD degrees in Health Economics at the University of London.
