Diana the Scholar, Bupa the Enabler
This is a story where purpose meets possibility. Diana Biliaieva, a passionate medical professional with a vision for systemic healthcare reform, found her journey transformed by the Bupa Scholarship—an extraordinary opportunity that turned ambition into action. Together, they embody the power of talent and trust to shape a healthier future.
“I am deeply grateful to Bupa and UCL Global Business school for Health for their trust and support. Their belief in my potential has been a powerful source of motivation, inspiring me to lead with empathy, purpose, and vision.”
Personal & Academic Background
My name is Diana Biliaieva, and I bring a strong foundation in medicine to my journey in healthcare leadership. After earning my medical degree and completing a residency in internal medicine in Ukraine, I broadened my perspective through clinical exposure in Sweden and the UK. These international experiences — including volunteering, clinical attachments, and securing my GMC licence to practise — deepened my understanding of how healthcare systems function across diverse settings.
Over time, I came to realise that driving meaningful, systemic change requires more than clinical expertise. To influence health policy and improve patient outcomes at scale, I needed to build strategic, managerial, and leadership capabilities. This insight led me to pursue the MBA Health programme at UCL — a pivotal step toward shaping more effective and equitable healthcare systems
“It reinforces my commitment to give back — not only by advancing healthcare systems, but by empowering others to do the same and striving to make a lasting, global impact.”
Scholarship Impact
Being chosen as the sole recipient of the Bupa Scholarship stands as one of the most defining moments in my journey. It not only removed the financial barrier that once stood between me and my education, but also powerfully affirmed that purpose, resilience, and ambition are recognised and valued. I am profoundly grateful to Bupa and UCL for believing in my potential and for their shared dedication to advancing global health and patient care.
Career Goals & Aspirations
In the short term, I am focused on building expertise in healthcare business administration and the responsible integration of digital health technologies. I also aim to cultivate a strong network of forward-thinking professionals who share a commitment to transforming healthcare. Looking ahead, my long-term ambition is to step into a leadership role where I can help shape inclusive, innovative, and resilient health systems. A core part of this vision is to apply the insights and experience gained at UCL toward the future rebuilding and reform of Ukraine’s healthcare infrastructure — ensuring it is equipped to meet the evolving needs of its people.
