Please tell us a bit about the work you are doing now.
I am a family medicine specialist at a government primary care clinic in Malaysia. I have been working in family medicine for 7 years.
Why did you choose to study your programme?
Child health has always been close to my heart and this MSc gave me the opportunity to improve my clinical knowledge in child health and child public health.
How did your UCL degree help you get to where you are now?
The modules in the MSc were comprehensive and relevant to my clinical practice. I enjoyed the safeguarding and children in society module, Nutrition, Growth and Physical activity module, and Child Public Health module.
These modules have made me more aware of child neglect and provided me with a strong foundation of knowledge about children under 5 years old, especially their feeding practices and physical activity. I also learned about strategies used by Public Health England to provide the best quality health care for children. Currently, I am one of the committee members in under 5 mortality reviews in my district, which has set up a clinic for children with special needs (autism, ADHD, speech delay) once a month, and been invited to give talks (television/radio/online) locally and nationally on child health related topics.
What advice would you give to incoming students?
This is a great 1-year learning experience with an insight into the UK child public health system. Go for it!
