UCL launches cutting-edge MSc in Cell, Gene, and Novel Therapies

12 December 2024

The UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and the UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences are excited to announce the launch of a new MSc programme in Cell, Gene, and Novel Therapies.

This innovative programme offers an in-depth exploration of the rapidly evolving field of biological therapies, providing students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in this cutting-edge area of biomedical science.

The MSc programme covers a wide range of topics, including applied genomics, the molecular basis of disease, stem cell biology and tissue repair, current and emerging technologies in biomedical research, therapeutic interventions, and clinical applications. Students will also receive rigorous training in research methodology and statistics, equipping them with the tools needed for advanced research and clinical practice.

The programme offers two distinct routes:

  • Cell and Molecular Therapies (CMT): This route focuses on the fundamentals of stem cell and tissue repair, as well as the preclinical and clinical applications of gene therapy and gene editing technologies.
  • Personalised Medicine (PM): This route delves into novel personalised therapies, such as RNA therapies, and covers preclinical drug development and clinical translation. Students will learn how to apply genomic and multiomic information to personalised medicine.

The development of advanced therapies is expanding rapidly, presenting unique challenges compared to traditional drug development. UCL's new MSc programme aims to address these challenges by training a new workforce equipped with the necessary expertise. The programme leverages the extensive knowledge and cutting-edge research available at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (UCL GOS ICH), its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), and UCL at large.

Prospective students are required to have a minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline from a UK university or an equivalent overseas qualification. Applicants with appropriate professional experience who do not meet these academic requirements will also be considered.
