The current gender disparity within healthcare leadership needs to change urgently, reports UCL Global Business School for Health (UCL GBSH) programme director Professor Nora Colton.
Statistics from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics show that whilst 80% of the healthcare workforce in the US are women, less than 20% of women are in executive roles.
Nora explains, “Study after study demonstrates that gender parity brings high-performing teams that can drive the innovation and change we desperately need in healthcare. It has been estimated that if we continue at our current rate of addressing this disparity, we will not reach a balanced workforce until 2074 – we cannot wait.”
In an attempt to help bridge this worrying disparity, the UCL GBSH are ready to work with the sector to address these issues through the variety of programmes and scholarships offered.
The ‘Women Healthcare Leaders Scholarship’ is designed to develop and educate women to be future leaders in healthcare, which will in turn help improve future healthcare management and patient care.
The ‘Women Healthcare Leaders Scholarship’ will be available for female students on our UCL MBA Health or MSc programmes who demonstrate leadership potential.
