Working from home has been a significant part of reducing the transmission of COVID-19. However, during the third England lockdown in early 2021, a quarter of people who believed they could work entirely from home still reported attending their workplace. In this paper, we used a nationally representative survey to investigate what was happening. We found that non-essential workplace attendance was commoner in those who had been vaccinated, those in financial hardship, socio-economic grade C2DE, having a dependent child at home, and working in certain key sectors. Government and employers could do more to support people to work from home should a future lockdown be necessary.
