International SARS-CoV-2 Infection Observational Study (ICOS)

Project Summary

While a proportion of people with COVID-19 have sufficiently severe symptoms to require hospitalization at the time of diagnosis, in most the disease is mild. In some cases, symptoms worsen after initial presentation.

There is an urgent need to better understand the progression of disease for individuals with SARS-CoV-2 infection/COVID-19 who do not require immediate hospitalization. The general aim of this study is therefore to estimate the rate of disease progression for adults who seek testing and test positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Who is eligible: individuals who are seeking testing for COVID-19 (e.g. because of a recent contact or symptoms) or have been recently diagnosed. They can be symptomatic or asymptomatic, 18 years or older, and willing to attend the Mortimer Market Centre to complete a health questionnaire and have a swab test for SARS-CoV-2 PCR and a blood test.

All participants will be given their PCR result. Participants with confirmed COVID-19 will be followed up remotely over 28 days, referring them for further care if required.
 
Who is not eligible: anyone with a known positive SARS-CoV-2 test more than 28 days ago.
