UCL Research Excellence Scholarship
We are pleased to consider applications from prospective students for the Research Excellence Scholarship (UCL-RES) which offers 40 fully funded scholarships across the whole of UCL
UCL Research Opportunity Scholarship
Supporting postgraduate research degree students from certain BAME ethnic groups who are UK-permanent resident and eligible for UK / Home fees status. 5 scholarships for applicants to any UCL faculty.
How to apply
Applications for UCL-RES and-UCL ROS must be submitted to the department by Friday 9 January 2026. Please note, prospective scholarship students must also submit a complete graduate application for admission onto a UCL research degree programme by the scholarship deadline. You do not need to have secured an offer of a place at UCL to apply for the scholarship, but you must have submitted your complete UCL research degree application to UCL Admissions by this deadline.

Institute for Global Health applicants should notify us by email that they would like to apply and submit all scholarship application documents to igh.researchdegrees@ucl.ac.uk

We will contact IGH applicants at the end of January to inform them whether they are among the nominated candidates.
Project proposals for applicants who are not awarded a UCL Research Scholarships, but who are still interested in joining our MPhil/PhD programme, will be internally reviewed by two academics and an offer of a place will, in part, be subject to positive reviews. Applicants will need to secure funding from other sources.
China Scholarship Council Scholarships
It has not yet been confirmed when the China Scholarship Council-UCL Joint Research Scholarship and China Scholarship Council - UCL Visiting Research Student Award will open for applications for the 2026/27 academic year. We recommend that prospective CSC - UCL Joint Research Scholarship applicants submit a UCL RES application for potential consideration for the CSC – UCL Joint Research Scholarship and let us know they are interested in this scholarship.
Prospective CSC – UCL Visiting Research students may submit speculative visiting research degree applications for 2026/27 academic year.
