My name is Deya, and I am an orthopaedic spinal surgeon from Jordan. I earned my medical degree from the Jordan University of Science and Technology, after which I joined the Jordanian military services to complete my orthopaedic training as a military doctor. Currently, I am pursuing a spinal fellowship at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham University Hospitals in the UK, following the completion of a clinical research fellowship at the AO Foundation headquarters in Switzerland.
I chose the Executive MBA Health for two key reasons. First, it offers a highly valuable and flexible program tailored to the demanding schedules of medical professionals. Second, it provides an opportunity to deepen my understanding of the business side of healthcare - allowing me to contribute not only as a clinician but also as a leader in shaping and managing healthcare systems.
Why UCL and GBSH? UCL’s distinguished legacy speaks for itself. What truly drew me in was the Global Business School for Health, the first business school in the world solely dedicated to healthcare. For clinicians, studying traditional business disciplines can be daunting due to the vastly different perspectives. GBSH bridges that gap. During my visit to the school, I had the privilege of meeting the directors and experiencing their energy and vision firsthand. I believe they are building something transformative, and I am eager to be part of it.
Receiving this scholarship has been a tremendous boost. It turned a distant dream into a tangible reality. It reaffirmed my belief that with determination and support, even the most ambitious goals are within reach.
My Goals for the Future
1. Establish a state-of-the-art spinal unit equipped with the most advanced technologies to deliver world-class patient care.
2. Play an active role in enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare systems, leveraging my clinical and managerial insights.
3. Foster a supportive and healthy work environment for healthcare professionals, ensuring their well-being and professional growth.
