Developmental Journal for babies and young children with visual impairment (DJVI): early intervention for babies and young children and their parents (0-3 years)

One day advanced training course to equip professionals to use the DJVI in their practice. Professionals will be equipped to assist and support babies and young children with visual impairment (VI, 0-3 years) and their parents

• using the most developmentally appropriate and scientifically effective methods for early intervention (VI)
• based on up-to-date child development psychology and vision and developmental neuroscience knowledge and partnership with parents family model
• foundations for healthy development and learning, relationships, and UK Early Years Foundation curriculum and the Curriculum for Children and Young People with VI
• developed by leading clinicians and researchers at Great Ormond Street Hospital and UCL Institute of Child Health, originally in partnership with governmental Early Support programme/ RNIB. It is the first nationally scientifically evaluated programme of its kind (OPTIMUM project). It is currently the internationally leading programme for Early Intervention (VI) and licenses for usage have been sold worldwide.  

The training course covers the principles and methods of all aspects of using the DJVI with lectures, demonstration and interactive exercises. 

Who can attend 

Designed for health, education and habilitation practitioners engaged in Early Intervention (VI). This includes those who are new to the DJVI or have been using it in practice and would benefit from a refresher training. It is also useful for supervisors and managers of Early Intervention (VI). 

Course trainers

The licensed trainers are Professor Naomi Dale (Professor of Paediatric Neurodisability/ consultant clinical psychologist, UCL, previously Great Ormond Street Hospital) and Associate Professor Alison Salt (UCL, currently Perth Children’s Hospital Australia), who are the original authors of the DJVI. They have many years’ expertise in clinically using and training multidisciplinary professionals in these methods. 

The training course leads to accreditation in use of the DJVI and a certificate of attendance. After training, use of the materials will need the DJVI license from https://xip.uclb.com/product/DJVI_professional (this is not included in the training).
