The EGA Institute for Women’s Health & UCLH Women's Health Division Annual Conference 2024 will be a showcase of high-quality research undertaken by UCL Institute for Women's Health & UCLH that will take place as a hybrid meeting, with 130 spaces for in person registration and the rest online remotely via Zoom.

Event details

This year the format will include oral presentations from IfWH/UCLH Researchers presenting their work, and undergoing a Q&A session. Presentations will be judged by our panel, and prizes awarded for the overall best performances.

In addition to this, as like every year, we will have our poster presentations and prizes, as well as highlights from our Institute staff of the high profile research that has been undertaken.

Furthermore, this year we will be hosting a Debate and a Key Note Lecture from externally invited speakers of clinical and academic backgrounds.

Keynote Speaker

Marian Knight 

Professor of Maternal & Child Population Health at the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit, Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford

'Inequality in Women's Health'

Marian Knight is Professor of Maternal and Child Population Health at the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit, Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford, UK and NIHR Strategic Director for Research Infrastructure. She is a public health physician and applied health researcher whose research focuses on the care and prevention of severe complications of pregnancy and early life and addressing disparities in outcomes for women and babies from different population groups. She established the UK Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS) in 2005 to conduct national studies of severe morbidities in pregnancy and leads the MBRRACE-UK national Confidential Enquiries into Maternal Deaths and Morbidity. She leads a parallel stream of work to improve the care of babies who undergo surgery in early life. She was elected to fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2021 in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the advancement of medical science, and awarded an MBE in the 2023 King’s New Year Honours for services to maternal and Public Health.

Debate - Invited Speakers

Spiros Denaxas is Professor of Biomedical Informatics based at the Institute of Health Informatics and Associate Director at the British Heart Foundation Data Science Centre leading the Defining Disease work area.

His research focuses on creating and evaluating algorithms for phenotyping, risk prediction, data modelling, and disease subtype discovery in structured electronic health records, clinical and omics data.

Spiros leads Health Data UK’s (HDR UK) National Phenotype Library project which provides an open access library of electronic health record phenotyping algorithms and enables reproducible research at scale.

Professor Ying Cheong is a Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery and Professor in Reproductive Medicine at the University of Southampton. She founded the Complete Fertility Centre Southampton at the Princess Anne Hospital in 2011. Ying’s research interests centre around understanding the biology of endometrium and endometrial associated pathology (endometriosis and adhesions); and she works closely with collaborators across disciplines in the School of Electronics and Computer Science and Nanoscience within the University of Southampton in the development of nano-therapeutics and medical biosensors. She holds several NIHR and commercial grants and is an experience clinical trialist. Ying was the Associate Dean for Enterprise from 2019-2022 and is active in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
