The seminar hosted by Phi Kim and chaired by UCL Global Business School for Health Director, Professor Nora Colton, will be followed by a drinks reception where leaders from across the business and health spectrum will have the chance to mingle and network.

Event description –

During this event Phi Kim Ho will provide insight into novel industry practices in the development of technology innovations as a part of master planning for future hospitals. This includes technology enablement and digital transformation and their impact on patient care, staff experience and facility design. Real-life scenarios will be presented with case studies from hospital and health care campus developments in the US and Canada.

Phi Kim Ho, P.Eng.

Phi received his Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communications Engineering with a second major in Computer Science in 1999. He started his career with a Vancouver-based engineering firm in 2000 providing design technology systems involving ICT, AV, Security, IoT and smart buildings; earning Partnership in 2005. After 15 great years with the firm, Phi left to start his own specialized technology consulting firm in 2015 called Aspyr. In 2019, Aspyr was sold to IBI Group, a global technology-driven design firm, as part of a growth and scaling strategy. In 2022, IBI Group was acquired by Arcadis, a 30,000-person engineering and architectural global giant.

Now part of Arcadis IBI Group and with over 20 years of industry experience, Phi provides leadership within the firm, holding two roles: Technology Systems Architect and Practice Lead.

As a Practice Lead, he is responsible for scaling the technology consulting practice globally. As a Technology Systems Architect, Phi is focused on human experience (HX) centric technology strategic planning and digital transformation.

His practice is sector-agnostic, enabling him and his team to gain significant penetration into sectors such as Health Care, Higher Ed, Justice, Corrections, Civic and Workplace. Some of his recent healthcare engagements include developing technology strategies Vancouver Coastal Health, Unity Point Health - Iowa, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Baylor Scott and White - Dallas, and Cleveland Clinic - Florida region, and notably the $1.9 Billion St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver for Providence Healthcare.

Professor Nora Colton - Chair

Professor Nora Colton is the Director of the UCL Global Business School of Health. She is a health and development economist with extensive experience in change management and strategy. Previous to this role she was the UCL Pro-Vice-Provost (Postgraduate Education) and Joint Director of Education at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital.

She has been a Professor of International Economics at Drew University, USA; Dean of Business and Deputy Vice Chancellor at University of East London (UEL), UK; and a visiting professor in the School of Public Administration at the University of Electronic Science and Technology (UESTC), Chengdu, China as well as the American University in Beirut (AUB), Lebanon. She holds a doctorate from University of Oxford, UK.

She also has studied and taught at a number of leading universities including Harvard University; W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University; American University in Cairo; American University in Beirut and Barcelona Business School at University Pompeu Fabra, Spain. She also holds a certificate in Change Management from Cornell University in the USA.

She has been the recipient of a serial Fulbright and a Carnegie Foundation grant to conduct fieldwork in the Middle East.

She is the author of numerous journal articles concerned with Middle Eastern economics and politics. She is also co-author of a book with Elsevier Press entitled Middle East Finance: Missed-opportunities or Future Prospects and has a book forthcoming with Palgrave-Macmillan on the political economy of Yemen. She has also been a series editor of a book series on Middle East Economics through Palgrave-Macmillan. More recently, she conducts research and publishes on healthcare management and strategic leadership.

She has a particular interest in change management as it relates to the healthcare sector and has designed programmes and taught on healthcare management postgraduate degree programmes as well as health related executive education and training programmes.
