Want to get your research into the media but unsure how?
Run by UCL’s own team of experienced communications experts and former journalists, this session will give you a greater understanding of how media organisations work, who the key decision makers are, and how editorial decisions are made. You will understand what makes a story and how to create a narrative that will be of interest to the media.
Areas covered include:
- Where you can go for media support and how you can work with the Faculty and UCL Media Relations to best promote your research expertise
- How to generate content that media will want to pick up and write clear and compelling stories that will be picked up
- The press release process, pitches and exclusives
- How the media works and editorial decisions are made
- How to form and maintain good media contacts
- Writing opinion pieces - using The Conversation
- Why you should raise your profile and how: blogs, thought leadership pieces and social media
This 2-hour session is aimed predominantly at those who have no or limited experience of dealing with the media but are interested in understanding how it works to best promote their research and raise their profile.
Tea and coffee will be provided.
'Getting your research into the media' is organised by the Faculty's Communications and Marketing Network, to join the network please sign up via Teams.
