Sex: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

UCL’s Professor Dame Anne Johnson, Dr Cath Mercer and King’s College London’s Dr Kate Devlin will together explore the past, present and future of sex, followed by an open Q&A with the audience. How has sex changed over the last 20 years? What role does and should sex play in our lives? How should we talk about sex?

Your speakers

Professor Dame Anne Johnson is Professor of Epidemiology and Director of the Centre of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at UCL. She is known internationally for her groundbreaking work on the epidemiology of HIV infection and the study of sexual lifestyles and risk behaviour.

Dr Cath Mercer is a Reader in Applied Statistics and leads UCL's Centre for Population Research in Sexual Health and HIV. She has worked on Britain's National Surveys of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (Natsal) for over 20 years. She is a trained demographer with an interest in sexual mixing, that is, who has sex with whom, and its implications for sexual health and wellbeing.

Dr Kate Devlin is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Digital Humanities King’s College London. Her work in the fields of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) investigates how people interact with and react to technologies, focusing on cognition, sex, gender and sexuality. Her most recent book is Turned on: Science, Sex and Robots.
