To compare the social and geographical patterning of intergenerational mobility for England & Wales

There is consensus on growing inequality in Britain in general terms. In recent decades, spatial variation is much more important than previously thought in understanding the social inequality. In particular, “the chances of someone from a disadvantaged background getting on in life is closely linked to where they grow up and choose to make a life for themselves”. As such, this study aims to investigate the absolute and relative chance that individuals from different social and geographic backgrounds get life promotions, it may help to better understand UK’s social mobility issues from a subnational perspective.
