The project will use the ONS Longitudinal Study to explore the longterm effects of being a young carer, how caring affects health, wellbeing and social participation. It will explore whether there are inequalities in associations (eg by gender, socioeconomic position, ethnicity) to identify particularly vulnerable groups. We will work in partnership with the Carers Trust and Young Hackney: Young Carers, and the work will input to young carers’ support programmes and research agendas. The research will also highlight the longer term effects of being a young carer up to age 25. We will produce several peer reviewed journal articles, conference presentations and will present our work at Young Carers Action Week in 2023.
