PhD Studentships
Current PhD studentships at the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology
We have two funded PhD opportunities for methodology projects. They are funded by the Trials Methodology Research Partnership (TMRP) to start in the 2026/2027 academic year:
- Optimising the choice of estimand in randomised trials: developing guidance on balancing statistical and clinical considerations to ensure results matter to stakeholders
- Improving design and analysis of non-inferiority trials with sparse outcome data
In addition, we have six PhD opportunities funded by the newly established MRC Centre of Research Excellence in Clinical Trial Innovation, to start in the 2026/2027 academic year:
- Generic MAMS designs: Multi-arm multi-stage (MAMS) designs with all types of intermediate and definitive outcomes
- Adapting personalised randomised controlled trial designs to increase efficiency and allow simultaneous assessment of intervention intensity
- Proportional odds model and win ratio: how can we ensure results are meaningful?
- Learning to trade-off: advancing composite outcome methods to improve non-inferiority designs
- Design solutions for differential placebo effects in MAMS studies with subjective outcomes
- Designing late-phase basket platform trials
