Undergraduate summer studentships
Child Health Research Summer Internship Scheme
Applications for the CHR Summer Internship Scheme 2025 have closed.
Are you interested in undertaking an eight week research project this summer?
The Trustees of the Child Health Research CIO have funded the Summer Vacation Internship Scheme since 2009.
Several undergraduate students studying science or medicine have been funded and hosted each year. The scheme provides a salary at the London Living Wage for a period of eight weeks. As a guide, internships are expected to start on 7th July and end by 5th September 2025.
Applicants should read the eligibility criteria before submitting an application. Only applicants meeting the eligibility criteria will be considered.
You must:
- Be studying your undergraduate degree in the UK and on track to obtain a minimum of a 2.1 for the undergraduate degree.
- Be studying a scientific or clinical subject relative to the aims of the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, and be able to express an interest to study for a Masters/PhD in the future.
- Have completed the first or second year of your BSc degree (or equivalent), or in the pre-clinical years of medicine or equivalent degrees, in 24/25. (Students finishing their last year this year and graduating this summer, and 4-year BSc/MSci students who are entering their MSc in 25/26 are not eligible).
- Applicants with no or little (less than four weeks) previous research experience will be prioritised as it is felt that these students will benefit the most from this opportunity.
These are research-based non clinical placements and it is not possible to fund the costs of overseas visits or visitors. The projects must be based entirely in the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (UCL GOS ICH) although remote or hybrid working may be possible with some projects. Travel and accommodation costs are not covered by the Scheme.
The Institute's areas of research are grouped into Research & Teaching Departments. Our laboratories are modern and well equipped and we also have excellent facilities for those carrying out research in non-laboratory subjects. You can find out more about the research carried out at ICH on our research pages.
Applications closed on Friday 28th March 2025. If you have not been contacted by a potential supervisor by the end of May 2025 it has not been possible to match you to a funded project/internship place.
The Institute is located in Guilford Street and the nearest tube station is Russell Square (Piccadilly Line) - map.
