The BENCHISTA project
The International Benchmarking of Childhood Cancer Survival (BENCHISTA) is a global research collaboration involving cancer registries, clinicians, and researchers.
Project overview
The BENCHISTA Project is a global research initiative led by UCL, aiming to understand international differences in childhood cancer survival. By analysing data from over 60 cancer registries, the project focuses on tumour stage at diagnosis and other key prognostic factors.
Phase 1 (2021) examined six common childhood cancers using the Toronto Staging Guidelines. Phase 2 (2025) expands the scope to include more registries, longer follow-up, and deeper analysis of treatment and demographic data. The goal is to generate insights that can improve outcomes for children with cancer worldwide.
