The dataset therefore consists of individuals who are:

• present at the 1991 Census and
• living in a private household at the 1991 Census and
• aged 65 or over at the 1991 Census and
• present at the 2001 Census (in any type of household).

Certain people will have to be dropped:

• those who are only visitors to an address on either Census night; and
• those enumerated at more than one address on either Census night.
