About this course
Agenda Setting and Public Policy is about how political participants seek to influence the policy agenda. The course has as its main focus the agenda-setting role of the media and public opinion on public policy.
Drawing on recent work, the course places special emphasis on the extent to which the internet and the use of social media have challenged decision-makers and affected the policymaking process.
Topics to be covered include: agenda setting, power, the media, social media, public opinion and punctuated equilibrium. In addition, students will have the opportunity to work with data from the Policy Agendas Project.
