We are delighted to announce the appointment of Tony Wright as Professor of Government and Public Policy in the Department of Political Science.

Dr Wright retired from Parliament this year, after 18 years as an MP, and a distinguished chairman of the Public Administration Committee.  Last year he chaired the Committee on Reform of the House of Commons (advised by Dr Meg Russell of UCL's Constitution Unit), whose recommendations should form one of the first items of business of the new Parliament.

Before entering Parliament Dr Wright was Reader in Politics at the University of Birmingham.  He is the author or editor of some 21 books, and co-editor of the Political Quarterly.

His main areas of expertise are the civil service, public service delivery, regulation, parliament and British political thought, and he will be teaching a practitioner-based course on the MSc in Public Policy.
