Dr Jeffrey Howard

Jeffrey Howard is Associate Professor of Political Theory at UCL, where he teaches in the School of Public Policy. He studies a variety of moral controversies faced by citizens and policymakers, and has written on freedom of speech and its limits, the philosophy of policing and criminal punishment, the ethics of counter-terrorism, and the purpose of democracy. He has published in leading journals of philosophy and political science, including Philosophy & Public Affairs, Journal of Political Philosophy, the British Journal of Political Science, and Annual Review of Political Science. He also comments regularly on moral controversies that arise in current affairs, especially in American politics, both on TV (BBC News Channel, Bloomberg, CNBC, Sky) and radio (BBC Radio 3 and 4, BBC Radio London, NPR).
