Biography

I teach public policy in the Department of Political Science. Prior to joining UCL in 2020, I was a researcher at the Law Society of Scotland, largely focusing on energy law, financial crime and the intersection between law and technology. Before this, I worked at the University of Edinburgh and in the UK Civil Service, where I was a senior policy adviser working on energy policy and business regulation.

I am also interested in pedagogy and the use of innovative educational techniques in political education. I have designed and delivered civic and political education seminars and training programmes for governments, charities and NGOs throughout Europe.

I have an LLB in Law and an MSc in International Relations, both from the University of Glasgow. I completed my PhD in Politics and International Relations at the University of Edinburgh.

Research

I am primarily interested in energy and environmental policy, particularly regarding the oil and gas industry. This includes the factors shaping environmental policy change, the role played by business interests and environmental organisations in shaping policy and interpretation, and the understanding and framing of energy security, economic efficiency and environmental sustainability.

I am also interested in most other aspects of public policy related to Scottish, UK and European politics.

Teaching

I have taught a number of courses covering public policy, political economy, international relations and energy policy. In 2023/24, I will be teaching the undergraduate modules ‘Public Policy’ (POLS0009) and ‘Global Environmental Politics’ (POLS0023), and the postgraduate module ‘International Public Policy’ (PUBL0090).

I am currently unavailable for PhD supervisions.
