Dr Lucy Barnes

Associate Professor in Comparative Politics 

Lucy’s research focuses on the politics of taxation in advanced industrial democracies, at the intersection of comparative politics, political economy and political behaviour. In 2019, Lucy became part of the first cohort of UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellows, winning four years of grant funding for her project on Mental Models and Political Economy.

Katerina’s research interests include political behaviour, comparative political economy, protests and authoritarian politics. Her current book project draws on evidence from Putin’s Russia, to examine how non-democratic incumbents manage public opinion and deflect blame when performance is poor.

Lisa's research looks at the relationship between NGOs, law and social change. She is currently working on three projects. One attempts to solve the puzzle of why some environmental NGOs have chosen to be active participants before the courts while others have completely eschewed the use of legal strategies in pursuit of their policy goals.
