Melanie Garson

Join Dr Melanie Garson for an exciting "In Conversation" event with Carl Thomson, Senior Director at Interel, one of the UK’s top public affairs and government relations consultancies, exploring the role of lobbyists and public affairs professionals within the UK political system, and how they help to inform and influence policy and legislation.

Before joining Interel, Carl was director of a Westminster-based political communications agency, and spent five years working in the House of Commons for two high-profile MPs.  Carl was twice elected to the management committee of the Association of Professional Political Consultants, the former trade body for the government relations industry, and has been a local councillor and candidate for Parliament. Drawing on his own experience, Carl will also share his thoughts and insights on what it’s like to work in Westminster, different career options for politics graduates, and what kind of skills and experiences are needed by those who want to work in public affairs or government relations.
