Professor Ewa Paluch BSCB Hooke Medal Winner 2017

The Hooke Medal is awarded once a year by the British Society for Cell Biology (BSCB) and is given to an emerging leader in Cell Biology. We are delighted to announce that the BSCB has awarded Prof. Ewa Paluch (UCL/MRC Laboratory for Cell and Molecular Biology) the Hooke Medal for 2017 in recognition of her outstanding contributions to cellular biophysics.

Ewa did her PhD at the Curie Institute in Paris, investigating actin network mechanics in vitro and in cells. In 2006, she moved to Dresden to start her own research lab at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (joint appointment with the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw). She was appointed Professor of Cell Biophysics and MRC programme leader at the MRC LMCB, University College London, in 2013. Her laboratory combines cell biology, biophysics and quantitative imaging to investigate the principles underlying cellular morphogenesis. In 2014, Ewa was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize in Biological Sciences for her contributions to cell biophysics. Since 2014, Ewa has also been the head of the Institute for the Physics of Living Systems (IPLS).
