First measurements of the differential positronium-formation cross-sections

Positrons are the antimatter version of electrons and so their fate in a matter world is ultimately to annihilate. However, prior to this, a positron may combine with an electron to form a matter-antimatter hybrid called positronium. This is akin to a hydrogen atom with the proton replaced by a positron. Fundamental to our understanding of the physical universe, positron and positronium are these days also acknowledged as being fantastically useful in practical applications such as probing material properties and medical diagnostics. However, there is still much that we do not know for sure about the details of the interactions of these particles with ordinary matter. Open Day for Prospective PhD Students

The Atomic Molecular Optical and Positron Physics group will be holding an Open Day on Wednesday December 3rd 2013.

The open day will start with lunch in E1 at 1:30pm. It will be followed by talks by academic staff at 2pm in A1 until 3:30pm. There will be a poster session in E7 from 3:30-5:00pm. Finally, at 3:45pm guided tours to our labs will be offered. 

Come along and find out more about working towards a PhD in our group! You'll get to hear about our research programs, talk to group members and potential supervisor as well as see our labs.
