Research summary
My research focuses on legal and political philosophy, and it falls into three areas. The first concerns the nature of legitimate political authority, and especially whether democracies can make a special claim of political legitimacy. My second area of research concerns classical political thought, namely, the account of law and freedom in Plato’s later writings. My third area of research concerns global civil society, with a focus on international organizations. For more information, please see my personal website.
Teaching summary
I currently teach various courses in political philosophy at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. My undergraduate modules are aimed at upper-level philosophy and ESPS students, and the topics vary by year – e.g. freedom, democracy, the social contract, etc. I also teach a postgraduate research seminar in the philosophy department each year.
