UCL Philosophy


S.V. Keeling Memorial Lecture

Together with the department of Greek and Latin, and through the generosity of a private donor, the UCL Philosophy department organises an annual S.V. Keeling Memorial Lecture in Ancient Philosophy. 

Unfortunately, the person who was scheduled to give the S.V. Keeling Memorial Lecture in Ancient Philosophy for the academic year 2019/2020 has had to cancel.  The 2020/2021 Lecture will be given by Prof. Alexander Nehamas (University of Princeton) and the 2021/2022 Lecture will be given by Prof. Rachel Barney (University of Toronto). 

The 2018/19 S.V. Keeling Memorial Lecture was be given by Professor M.M. McCabe (Emerita Professor of Ancient Philosophy, KCL), on 14th March 2019, 5pm-7pmProf McCabe spoke on the topic of: 'Taking time to talk: Plato's Euthydemus on the metaphysics of conversation'.

New: Preview a pre-publication version of Prof Gail Fine's Keeling Memorial Lecture on Epistêmê and Doxa, Knowledge and Belief, in the Phaedo.

Forthcoming publication in Spring 2020 in a collected volume of recent Keeling Lectures as a supplementary edition of the Bulletin of the Institute of Classical Studies (BICS). Cite with permission only.
