UCL Philosophy


S.V. Keeling Memorial Lecture

Together with the department of Greek and Latin, and through the generosity of a private donor, the UCL Philosophy department organises an annual S.V. Keeling Memorial Lecture in Ancient Philosophy. 

The 2021/2022 Keeling Memorial Lecture will be given by Prof. Alexander Nehamas (University of Princeton), the 2022/2023 Lecture will be given by Prof. Rachel Barney (University of Toronto), and the 2023/24 Keeling Lecture will be given by Prof. Verity Harte (Yale University).

The 2018/19 S.V. Keeling Memorial Lecture was given by Professor M.M. McCabe (Emerita Professor of Ancient Philosophy, KCL), on 14th March 2019, 5pm-7pmProf McCabe spoke on the topic of: 'Taking time to talk: Plato's Euthydemus on the metaphysics of conversation'.

New: Preview a pre-publication version of Prof Gail Fine's Keeling Memorial Lecture on Epistêmê and Doxa, Knowledge and Belief, in the Phaedo.

Forthcoming publication in Spring 2020 in a collected volume of recent Keeling Lectures as a supplementary edition of the Bulletin of the Institute of Classical Studies (BICS). Cite with permission only.
