Tribute to Professor David Taylor
22 January 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor David Taylor, Emeritus Professor at UCL School of Pharmacy, who passed away on 13 January 2025.

David was a significant member of the Research Department of Practice and Policy. He joined UCL School of Pharmacy in 2001 as Professor of Pharmaceutical and Public Health Policy and was instrumental in introducing the subject of Pharmaceutical Public Health into our academic lexicon.
David worked tirelessly to emphasize the importance of pharmacy in progressing public health in the UK and internationally. He undertook significant research, authored many influential national reports and global policy initiatives during his time at UCL SOP. He led or co-authored a number of influential policy articles in the areas of cancer care and chronic illness. He published several editorials on BMJ in the policy areas of medications from the pharmaceutical industry, fundings for rare disease and health in developing countries. In 2008 David was awarded the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Synergy Prize for the non-pharmacist who contributed most to pharmacy.
David was the instigator of the UCL School of Pharmacy/Royal Pharmaceutical Society/National Pharmacy Association annual lecture, an important event in the national calendar for pharmacy. David continued to be actively engaged with research and education during his retirement. He was hugely respected by colleagues for his kindness, support and dedication to his research and policy work.
Our thoughts and prayers at this sad time are with his wife Jean and children, and their wider family and friends.
