UCL School of Pharmacy spinout visits NASA

13 November 2024

Following this summer’s visit from NASA to the UCL School of Pharmacy, delegates from FABRX and the Basit Research Group recently visited one of NASA’s launch sites for a private guided tour and discussions around the future of printing medicines in space.

FABRX visit to NASA

Following NASA’s visit to the UCL School of Pharmacy, a delegation from FABRX and the Basit Research Group had the privilege of visiting NASA’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station upon invitation in September. Here they were shown around the facilities by Dr J.D. Polk, NASA’s Chief Medical and Health Officer, and colleagues. The visit offered a unique behind-the-scenes look at the site’s space-launch facilities and labs, typically off-limits to the public. Director of Innovation at FABRX, Dr Anna Worseley, summarised the fascinating day with: “Today has been the best day at work, ever”.

More than just a tour, the visit sparked meaningful discussions about future collaboration for personalised medicines fabrication in outer space. The visit marks the beginning of an exciting coalition between FABRX, a UCL School of Pharmacy spinout, Professor Abdul Basit’s research group, and NASA. By combining the company’s research expertise on 3D printed personalised medicines with NASA’s pioneering space technologies, both institutions are eager to make significant strides in advancing space innovation.
