Being appointed a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society is one of the highest honours that can be bestowed upon Society Members. It recognises the distinction Members have attained in a particular aspect or aspects of their pharmacy career. As Fellowships are based on nominations from Members, it also signifies the esteem in which members are held by their peers, and as such is a mark of achievement.

Cate's research focuses on evaluation of the pharmacists’ role in public health particularly alcohol interventions. She undertakes medication safety research on the types and causes of medication incidents and evidence-based safety solutions. Cate has expertise teaching clinical skills within the undergraduate degree. She has also led the training of pharmacist prescribers in the UK and has supported the development of non-medical prescribing in New Zealand.

For Cate the Fellowship was a particular honour as she undertook her PhD at King’s College London (1987 to 1990) supported by a scholarship from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society which has been the foundation for her academic career. She was awarded her Fellowship for excellence in pharmacy.

‘This well-deserved honour reflects Cate’s extremely high standing in the pharmaceutical community and the many contributions she has made to the education of pharmacists, alongside her research activities in the clinical field.  Cate has been an invaluable colleague here at UCL and it is a real delight that she has won this highly significant recognition.’ Commented Professor Duncan Craig, FRPharmS, Director and Chair in Drug Delivery, UCL School of Pharmacy.

She has worked at Durham University, King’s College London and Cardiff University. She edits ‘Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics’ a core textbook for students and pharmacists.
