EndNote

EndNote is a licensed software program that enables you to build and manage your own 'libraries' of references, with which you can create citations and bibliographies using your word processor.

EndNote Desktop is available on UCL Desktop Services.  Staff may download it to locally-managed UCL computers from ISD.  EndNote Desktop is not available for download to personal computers.

Offsite Access

An online version of EndNote is available for use on any computer.  The online version has fewer features and less capacity than the desktop version but offers the same basic functions.  Please be advised: synchronise your EndNote Online library with one EndNote Desktop library only

Follow these instructions to create an EndNote Online account:

  • Open EndNote X9 on a UCL computer
  • Create, name and save a New Library
  • Go to Tools
  • Select Sync
  • Fill in the registration form

Thereafter, log onto your EndNote Online account at http://endnote.com/ or via the Web of Science literature database.

Support and Training

Download the user guide (pdf) produced by UCL Library Services.

The official EndNote website provides technical support, FAQs, downloads and tutorials.

Library staff offer training sessions on EndNote.  There are weekly scheduled sessions every Tuesday 11am until 12noon.  Please email sop.library@ucl.ac.uk to check availability and to book sessions, or if you have any questions or queries when using EndNote.

Referencing Styles

You will need to choose a referencing style for your references.  There are thousands of styles worldwide, many of which are available on EndNote.  Please consult course documents or talk to your supervisor about which style you should use.
