We are inviting patient organisations linked to the research areas we work in, to enable cross-collaboration and learning from patient groups what are their top priorities for research in these areas and facilitate public understanding and access to research results in a way most accessible to them. We will have some sessions to enable discussion between researchers and patients/public and a poster/networking session where SoP presents research to a public-facing audience. The outcomes of the event would be raised awareness of public/patient needs and understanding, increased public/patient awareness of research in the School of Pharmacy, potentially also initiation of potential collaborations and connections with disease support groups.
Outline Schedule:
- 14:00: Introduction and welcome
- 14:15: Flash talks from charities (Talk themes: Connecting with community and delivering impact for public and patient benefit. Key research questions of the funders and engagement with patient groups)
- 14:45: Panel with patients (Covering the following themes: What do patients and public want to understand from research and researchers? How do they like to learn about research into their condition? How best to engage with patients and public?)
- 15:30: Lay/Plain English Posters and networking over tea break
- 16:30: Close (poster prize decided by patients)
