Job description

The purpose of this job is to support teaching and learning towards our MSc in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at UCL’s Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. We are an enthusiastic and vibrant team who are looking for PGTAs to deliver our programme with us.

Main duties of the post may include attending regular meetings with the course team; providing tutorial class teaching and support; giving feedback to students; editing and uploading live session content (including videos); maintaining Moodle pages and reading lists; and undertaking coursework, examination and dissertation marking. Teaching Assistants will be given training in support of their roles. We hope that you will aim for a HEA Fellowship during this year with us.

Key responsibilities

• Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
• Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
• After-class contact time with students, including time-tabled office hours;
• Dissertation co-supervision at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level(s);
• Marking students' work;
• Giving feedback to students

Requirements for role

• Educated to Masters degree level (or having equivalent experience)
• Working towards a relevant postgraduate degree (PhD)
• Excellent working knowledge of MS Office software including Word, Excel, email, and the internet
• Specialist skills appropriate to the course taught
• Masters or degree level research supervision or marking  would be desirable
• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with students, academic and support staff at all levels
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to be flexible and to respond to changing priorities in a busy environment
• Ability to work independently for short periods and as part of a team, recognising when advice / input needs to be sought
• A high level of accuracy and a keen attention to detail
• Understanding of qualitative or qualitative research methods
• Excellent people skills and the ability to build good relationships with colleagues and external partners
• An enthusiasm for teaching
