Job description

The UCL Faculty of Engineering Sciences EFY Team invites applications from STEM research students for Post-Graduate Teaching Assistant (PGTA) positions to support our teaching of the Engineering Projects and Skills (ENGF0027) and Applied Science and Experimentation (ENGF0037) modules for the 2025-26 academic year. 

Please note: The positions are based in UCL East. 

ENGF0027: In this role, you will assist the ENGF0027 Engineering Projects and Skills module academic staff in facilitating lab sessions throughout Terms 1 and 2. This will involve ten 3-hour lab sessions. 

Successful applicants will receive (and be paid for) training relevant to their work. This will be 2 hours of training in total.

ENGF0037: In this role, you will assist the ENGF0037 module lead in facilitating four 3-hour lab-based sessions throughout Term 2. These sessions will involve supervising and supporting students in physics experiments and will also involve assessing students’ experimental work.  

The role involves facilitating the learning of students with diverse educational backgrounds.  All teaching and learning material will be provided by the Module Lead.    

Successful applicants will receive (and be paid for) training relevant to their work. This will be 4 hours of training in total.

Key responsibilities

  • Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
  • Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
  • Marking students' work;
  • Giving feedback to students

Requirements for role

Successful applicants will have:  

  • Knowledge and experience of mechanical design and CAD.

  • Knowledge and experience of manufacturing (3D printing, laser cutting).

  • Knowledge and experience of Arduino/coding/programming.

  • Excellent knowledge of physics and mechanics.

  • Experience with teaching and facilitating learning of a small group of students.

  • Experience in teaching students from diverse educational backgrounds.
