The MA Comparative Education includes 3 core modules and 3 optional modules, and PGTAs are likely to work on one or more of:
Comparative Education: Theories and Methods
 Education Traditions and Systems in Europe
 Education and Development in Asia
 Education, Values and Identities

Other optional modules are:

 Introduction to Quantitative Methods for Social Sciences
 International Perspectives on Adult Learning

Number of hours: up to 180 hours per academic year

Start date: 1st August 2026
Duration: Up to 1 year

Grade: PGTA (Grade 6)
Location: London

Job description

The purpose of the PGTA role is to support teaching and learning on modules with support from academic module leaders.

The main duties of the post include contributing to class teaching, tutoring and marking oral and written assessments, providing feedback to students, taking part in meetings with the module team and other module-related activities as required. 

PGTA roles are intended to be developmental for those involved, so training and support will be given.

Key responsibilities

  • Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
  • Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
  • Marking students' work;
  • Giving feedback to students

Requirements for role

You are currently a UCL PGR student, or registered as a UCL PGR student from Term 1 of 2026. 

The successful candidate will be educated to Masters degree level (or having equivalent experience), in the field  of education or related areas (including areas related to the post: such as, comparative and international education, educational policy, educational developments in Europe and Asia) You are working towards a relevant postgraduate degree (PhD/EdD or similar) at UCL  and have specialist knowledge appropriate to the module taught. In addition, you will have experience of managing virtual learning environments including Moodle design and Talis reading lists  and experience of teaching and supporting students at various levels.
