Department: Education, Practice and Society (EPS)
Modules: 

  • Sociology of Education module: 90 hours. This module takes place in Term 1 (Autumn).
  • Understanding Education Research module: 90 hours. This module takes place in Term 1 (Autumn)
  • Rights and Education module: 93 hours. This module takes place in Term 2 (Spring)
  • Gender, Sexuality and Education module: 93 hours. This module takes place in Term 2

Job description

The posts are open to current registered UCL Post Graduate Research students only.

The purpose of this job is to support teaching and learning in our Sociology of Education MA modules. 

This will involve working with the academic module leads to deliver small group teaching for students taking the above modules in the EPS Department.  

Main duties of the post are tutorial class teaching, regular meetings with the module team, providing support and feedback to students, providing weekly office hours, managing Moodle (the VLE) including on-line discussion forums, supporting the development of the online Talis reading list for the module, attendance reporting, and providing formative and summative assessment. 

Teaching Assistants will be given training in support of their roles

Key responsibilities

  • Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
  • After-class contact time with students, including time-tabled office hours;
  • Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
  • Giving feedback to students;
  • Marking students' work

Requirements for role

You are currently a UCL PGR student, or registered as a UCL PGR student from September 2025, and not already working as a PGTA on any other UCL programme or intending to do so in the 2025-2026 academic year. 

The postholder will have demonstrable sound knowledge in a subject area relevant to the module(s) to be supported. You are educated to Masters degree level (or having equivalent experience), in a Sociology of Education related field, and working towards a relevant postgraduate degree (PhD). In addition, you will have experience of managing virtual learning environments including Moodle design and Talis reading lists and experience of teaching and supporting students at various levels
